In a world where the mass media is one of the most powerful things, so many aspects of our everyday lives are influenced by it. We don’t realise that our own mental image of what we think beauty and is, is shaped by everything we see online, in magazines and in shop windows. However we don’t see a wide range of different body types, ethnicities, races, sexual orientations, ages, and physical abilities represented in the mass media. The ideals of the media that we see on screen are a “perfect” representation of what a human should be. This is not right. This isn’t “perfect”, it is unrealistic. As a society we do not largely celebrate self-love and acceptance, instead, we replace it with impossible standards of skin deep beauty.
